The Philippine National Agency for Drugs and Food Control (PPIC) is looking at alternatives for impotence drugs.
The Agency is asking for approval to sell Sildenafil, a drug used in treating erectile dysfunction in men. It will be made available in the United States on Jan 1.
The drug is also being tested in other countries, including Australia and India. It’s also being sold in the U. S.
On the day the agency took action, Philippine President Benigno Aquino Jr. said that the drug, sold as Viagra, is a safe and effective solution to erectile dysfunction in men.
“We have seen that the drugs are safe and effective in men with low levels of a hormone called prostanoids,” Aquino said. “However, they are not as effective as those with a higher level of testosterone in the body. So we decided to sell Sildenafil in the U. and look at alternatives.”
Viagra is a prescription drug that works by increasing blood flow to the penis, helping men with erectile dysfunction to achieve and maintain an erection.
Sildenafil is taken by mouth for about four hours, with the dose typically being 25 mg to 50 mg per day. It can last for up to four hours and can also help men who have high levels of testosterone. Some men may need a dose higher than that.
It’s available as a generic drug, which is sold by various companies.
Sildenafil has been the subject of controversy over concerns it could be associated with certain drug side effects.
In June, a petition from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention () requested a warning label for the drug.
In August, the agency released a warning label for the drug. The agency says that while many doctors would prescribe the drug, there is currently a “limited number of prescriptions available.”
While Viagra is available as a generic drug, the Food and Drug Administration has already approved it. The Food and Drug Administration also says it is not required to list any specific brand name drugs.
The agency has yet to comment on the matter.
In a statement, the United States Food and Drug Administration says it does not have the data to support the claim that sildenafil is safe and effective.
“There is no way that a drug with sildenafil’s safety and efficacy could interact with other medications, including some of the other active ingredients in Viagra,” said FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb. “It is unclear what other drugs the agency could take on a daily basis.”
Pfizer is one of the nation’s largest drug makers. It recently launched a campaign against its products in an effort to reduce the cost of its drug. It has raised awareness of its products, which include sildenafil, by nearly 50 percent.
The company has also been involved in an effort to raise awareness about the dangers of sildenafil.
“We are doing everything we can to help consumers who suffer from erectile dysfunction. We want to help them,” said Benigno Aquino Jr. “But we cannot protect them and we cannot provide the medicines to them. We will not take any action against Pfizer.”

This week, a study found that Viagra users are twice as likely as men to have taken Kamagra, compared to men who do not have erectile dysfunction.

But researchers say it's not clear how long Kamagra will last.
Viagra has long been used for sexual arousal, helping men overcome the challenges of erectile dysfunction. It's also been shown to be effective at treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition in which the prostate gland becomes enlarged.
However, more research is needed to determine its long-term efficacy and safety. Nissen and colleagues at Northwestern Medicine analyzed data from over 1,400 U. S. men taking a drug called Viagra.
Men who took the drug for six months had an average increase of 0.13 more than a placebo. That's about double the effect of placebo on sexual activity.
Viagra is prescribed to treat erectile dysfunction in men by increasing blood flow to the penis.
But some studies suggest that Kamagra might have less long-term safety and effectiveness, including that it can cause dizziness, fainting and even death.
A study published last week in the Journal of Sexual Medicine examined side effects of the drug and found that men taking it for six months experienced a lower incidence of erectile dysfunction than men who didn't take the drug.
The researchers said that the results were important because they indicate that Kamagra has been effective and safe in treating erectile dysfunction for a long time, even if the drug is not proven to be as effective as PDE5i treatment.
"We think that the safety and efficacy data presented here represent a reasonable alternative to the PDE5i treatment of erectile dysfunction in men," Nissen said. "We're very confident that this could be a new treatment option for men who don't respond well to other therapies."
A study of Kamagra's effects on men's sexual satisfaction has yet to be published, but Nissen said this may help clarify its long-term safety.
